Fruit & Vegetable Treatments for Healthy Skin

We all know the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables. But did you know the same fresh ingredients you use in your favorite recipes can do wonders for your skin health? Many whole fruits and vegetables can help prevent wrinkles, fight free radicals and give you firmer, younger-looking skin. So go ahead, keep eating your fruits and veggies, but try applying them to your skin too! Natural skin treatments are fun, simple, easy on your wallet and great for healthy skin. And let’s face it, who doesn’t want that?

Anti-Aging Cranberry Facial Mask

When you think cranberries, you likely think of cranberry sauce, holiday side dishes and maybe even scones or juices. But, what you should be thinking about is your skin! Rich in antioxidants, cranberries can help ward off wrinkles, reduce redness and prevent any signs of skin damage. To bring the benefits of cranberry to your skin, apply this anti-aging cranberry facial mask at least twice a month.

Directions: Mix 1 cup fresh cranberries, 1 cup seedless red or green grapes, 2 tsp. lemon juice, 1 envelope unflavored gelatin at medium speed for 20 seconds, until they have a paste-like texture. Cover and refrigerate for 45 minutes to thicken. Remove from the fridge and let sit about 10 minutes. Spread the mixture onto your clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area. Relax for 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. You are left with radiant, exfoliated, hydrated, healthy skin without spending the money on a professional facial.

Skin-Revitalizing Orange Peel

We all know that oranges are rich in calcium and folic acids which helps strengthen our bones and develop our brain. But besides offering many health benefits, it is also a magic fruit for healthy skin. Oranges are packed full of antioxidants, vitamins and zinc, which are clinically proven to prevent wrinkles and fine lines and aid in skin health. Plus, they’ll give you a rejuvenating glow that will make your friends jealous!

Directions: Mix together 1 egg yolk, 1 tsp. honey, 1/8 cup fresh citrus juice and 1 packet plain gelatin. Apply the orange peel face mask on your face and neck, and gently massage in a circular motion. Leave the mask on for 20 to 25 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Once you have removed the facemask, splash some cold water on your face to close your pores. Voila – fresh skin!

Pore Minimizing Lemon-Tomato Mask

Fussing over large pores? While large skin pores are usually genetic or a result of improper skin care, the topic can be a major concern among women. Luckily, this easy and inexpensive homemade tomato and lemon mask can help! Tomatoes make an exceptional skin treatment for large pores as their naturally acidic properties help balance the skin and remove  excessive oil, while lemons’ natural antiseptic medicine aids in removing blackheads and de-clogging pores. You are sure to see a big difference in your skin once you apply this unique blend of ingredients! Enjoy!

Directions: Scoop and mash one ripe tomato in a bowl. Place mashed tomato, 1 tsp. lemon juice and 1 tsp. oatmeal in a blender and puree. Apply mix to clean face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water then pat dry.

Papaya Sea Salt Body Scrub

Papaya is often referred to as “fruit of angels.” One reason for this nickname could be papaya’s angelic effect on your skin. Papaya is believed to remove dead cells from skin and exfoliate the skin in a gentle and natural way. Applied topically, papaya helps fight back acne, remove blemishes, dark spots and even out skin tone, leaving you with healthy skin and a natural glow.

Directions: Cut the papaya fruit and blend in a food processor or blender until it reaches a smooth paste consistency. Mix in half a cup of sea salt and 1 tsp. olive oil to create a grainy paste. Use as a natural body scrub and exfoliator once per week.
